It’s not too often that you get to speak with a legend and a pioneer in the sport that you love.
In this latest episode of the Lax Goalie Rat Podcast, I sat down with Syracuse Women’s Lacrosse great and Haudenosaunee Women’s Lacrosse team member Amber Hill.
During her time at Syracuse, Hill amassed a large list of awards and accolades.
She sits at number 2 all-time in Syracuse single-season saves record (193), No. 3 all-time in Syracuse career save percentage (.511), was named the 2007 Most Outstanding Player of the BIG EAST Championship while also leading the BIG EAST that season in saves per game (10.16), and was named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll twice (2006 & 2007).
Since 2006, Amber has been the Haudenosaunee Nationals Captain and has competed in four international World Lacrosse Women’s Championships. She has also led the Nationals to a first-place finish in the 2019 PanAmerican Lacrosse Association World Championship Qualifiers.
She has also competed at the highest level for women’s box lacrosse in the Ontario Women’s Box Lacrosse League, winning two gold medals, and helped the Six Nations Snipers in the Women’s Arena Lacrosse League win a gold medal in 2018.
Amber is now currently playing pro lacrosse with Athlete’s Unlimited, a professional league for women’s lacrosse that was launched this past summer. Athlete’s Unlimited features a unique scoring system that recognizes both team and individual play.
The games are faster, and individual players score points to move up and down the season leaderboard.
At the end of the season, the player leading in the standings is crowned Athletes Unlimited Champion. In her first season, Hill amassed 1145 points and finished 26th in the AU Standings.
On top of her decorated playing career, Amber is also the Head Women’s lacrosse coach at Hilbert College, having previously coached at Niagara University. She sits on the Niagara Arts and Cultural Board of Directors, was recently the Director of Public Relations and Communications for the Haudenosaunee Nationals Board of Directors since 2013, and is the Chair for the Niagara Falls Human Rights Commission.
She was recently appointed to the World Lacrosse Women’s Box Lacrosse working group charged with bringing the game of women’s box lacrosse to the international stage, as well as the World Lacrosse Box Lacrosse Rules SubCommittee.
Amber joins the show today to discuss her early roots in lacrosse, learning the position without any coaching, her playing career at Syracuse, leading a defense, and much more!

After learning to play goalie from scratch, I wanted to create a site where I could share what I learned with others so they too can become champions in the crease and in life. Learn more about Coach Damon.
