Casey Keenan, Cal Men’s Assistant Coach and MCLA All-American Goalie – LGR Episode #86
It’s always great to chat with a fellow lacrosse goalie. But like me, Casey Keenan grew up in the Bay Area. And like me Casey was a goalie at Cal. So it was awesome to chat with someone who has so much in common for the show.
For the past 5 seasons, Casey has been the assistant coach for his alma mater helping coach the goalies amongst other duties. The coaching staff of the Golden Bears has the program in an amazing spot – they went to the National Championship game in 2019 but fell just short to South Carolina.
The 2020 and 2021 seasons got stung by the COVID but when Cal regroups in 2022 you have imagine they’ll be back competing for the national championship with Casey leading the goalies.
In this episode we discuss Casey’s background playing goalie and the path that led him to the University of California. We discuss his playing career in the MCLA and his experience as a student athlete at Cal. Finally we discuss his transition into coaching and how he ended up as Cal’s assistant coach and working with the goalies. We also discuss the process a goalie should go through if they have dreams of playing ball at Cal.
