Loyola Alumni Goalie Jack Runkel – LGR Episode #69

Awhile back I was breaking down some lacrosse goalie clips of a Loyola goalie Jack Runkel for the Lax Goalie Rat Academy (members find that training here).

After doing that analysis I wanted to get him on the podcast immediately to ask some questions and pick his brain on what made him such a great lacrosse goalie during him time at Loyola University. I was so impressed with his presence in the cage and his communication style.

Jack is now the assistant coach at the D1 program at LIU.

In this episode we touch on:

  • His start in goalie
  • How he learned the position
  • His style of goalie play
  • How his game changed over the years
  • What he does to get out of a slump
  • How he approaches communication as a lacrosse goalie
  • His favorite goalie drills
  • What he looks for when reviewing tape of young goalies
  • Plus much more…

Great guy and great conversation. Hope you enjoy this one!

  1. Loved the episode, I’ve recently gotten braces and I’m a goalie in HS, I’m looking for something that will protect them, but have a mouthpiece that will allow me to talk with no problems. Have any recommendations?
