In addition to being an elite goalie and a great goalie coach, Zach Oliveri is also a physical therapist.
That combination of elite goaltending knowledge and interest in the body that makes him one of the best goalie coaches in the game.
The last time I chatted with Zach Oliveri was during the very first Lacrosse Goalie Summit held in July 2020 so it’s been awhile. In that presentation he gave a talk on performance management and taking care of your body, something crucial for all athletes out there.
Oliveri played college ball at UMass before transferring to Stony Brook to be closer to his family after his father passed. He shares some UMass stories along with some stories from his time playing with U19 Team USA.
In 2012 at the FIL games in Finland, the U19 team hit some struggles in group play suffering the first ever loss against Canada and Team Iroquois. But they eventually pulled it together (no thanks to Oliveri’s leadership skills) and brought home the gold for the red, white, and blue.
Oh and we also talk about his sweet dance moves out on the field.
